High school juniors and seniors typically take the SAT. The SAT is intended to measure literacy, numeracy and writing skills that are needed for academic success in college. The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) assesses how well the test-takers analyze and solve problems—skills they learned in school that they will need in college. However, administrators enforce a tight time limit (speeded) during the test to help produce a range of scores.
The College Board, a private, not-for-profit organization in the United States, wholly owns, develops, and publishes the SAT. Until shortly before the 2016 redesign of the SAT, the Educational Testing Service administered the test on behalf of the College Board. They developed the test and then maintained a repository of items (test questions) as well. Finally, The test aims to evaluate students’ readiness for college. Originally, It was not designed to align. However, the version of the SAT introduced in 2016 made several adjustments to align with high school curricula. David Coleman, the president of the College Board, added that he aimed to make the test reflect more closely. The District of Columbia and many states have adopted the new Common Core standards, reflecting what students learn in high school.
